Wires and cables are mainly insulated by the outer layer of sheath. They are corroded by outside air for a long time, and the insulation performance gradually decreases, gradually aging and hardening, becoming brittle or falling off. At this time, they can no longer play the role of insulation. The outer insulating layer of household electric wires is mostly made of plastic and rubber, and it will age and lose its insulating effect when used for a long time. The service life of general household wires can reach 10-20 years under normal conditions. After the wire is aging, the insulation performance decreases and short circuit is easy to occur. Especially in humid weather, although the appearance of the wire is intact, the insulation performance has been reduced. When moisture penetrates into the metal conductor, a short circuit occurs and a fire occurs. Short-circuit cables are also one of the main causes of fires. Every year, there are countless fire accidents caused by short-circuit cables worldwide. This is also one of the important "killers" that threaten public safety.
1. Cable installation
Cable laying and installation do not meet the standard requirements, the unit that undertakes the construction of the cable project does not perform the construction according to the specified requirements, the process equipment is poor, and the laying process is not strictly implemented. There is no supervision, self-inspection and mutual inspection during the installation process, not to mention the requirements of the fire protection law and electric power. The construction safety work regulations require construction, so that the completed cable line will be unsafe, have many accidents, and easily cause fires during operation.
2. Short circuit
A short circuit is when the two wires of the AC circuit touch each other, and the current does not pass through the electrical equipment in the circuit, but directly forms a loop. The resistance of the cable itself is relatively small. If it only passes through the loop of the cable, the current will increase sharply, which is tens or hundreds of times larger than normal. Because the higher the resistance, the more heat is generated, which will cause the wire to generate a temperature as high as thousands of degrees Celsius in a very short time, which is enough to ignite nearby combustibles and cause a fire.
3. Line overload
If the current through the cable exceeds its safe current carrying capacity, the cable will generate heat, and the more it exceeds, the greater the heat generation. When the heat causes the cable temperature to exceed 250°C, the cable rubber or plastic insulation layer will catch fire. If the cable "jacket" is damaged, it will cause a short circuit, and the risk of fire is even greater. In addition, if a substandard fuse is selected, the overload of the circuit cannot be detected in time, which can easily cause a fire.
4. Cable aging
Cable overload heating, sunlight (ultraviolet rays), environmental temperature variation, cable heat dissipation conditions, and the corrosion of the atmosphere and environmental chemicals will cause the cable insulation and outer sheath to age. The severe overload of the cable is the most important factor that accelerates the aging of the cable insulation. The main reason is that there is information that the long-term overload working temperature of the cable exceeds the allowable long-term working temperature of the insulation by 10°, and the insulation service life of the cable will be reduced by half. If it is not replaced in time, it is easy to cause a short circuit of the cable and cause a fire.
